Sprinkler Fitter Apprentice (Class 1-5) Columbus
The Fire Sprinkler Helper performs tasks at various job sites. The role requires a person with the ability to learn the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire sprinkler systems in commercial and industrial buildings.
Core Responsibilities:
- Learn and become proficient at installing fire sprinkler systems, piping, and associated equipment according to blueprints, local codes, and safety regulations.
- Learn and become proficient at inspecting, testing, and repairing existing fire sprinkler systems to ensure functionality and compliance with safety standards.
- Learn and become proficient at interpreting and following technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to plan the layout and installation of sprinkler systems.
- Learn to ensure all installations meet local, state, and national fire codes.
- Learn to diagnose issues with malfunctioning sprinkler systems, identify the root cause, and implement effective solutions.
- Learn and become proficient at conducting hydraulic pressure tests of piping installation.
- Learn and become proficient at checking and adjusting controls, gauges, and valves to achieve control of flow or pressure.
- Load and/or unloading trucks manually or with motorized lifts.
- Pick and sort pipe, fittings and hardware associated with the building construction trades.
- Sort and stage fire sprinkler pipe and materials.
- Clean and prep sprinkler pipe for installation.
- Haul pipe, fittings and hardware from staging areas to installation location.
- Set up and operate various pipe cutting, threading, and grooving machinery.
- Learn and become proficient at measuring, cutting and grooving/threading sprinkler pipe to specifications.
- Learn and become proficient at cutting and drilling penetrations through walls and floors for pipe installation.
- Inspect tools, cords and ladder/lifts as needed..
- Assist with inventory of construction materials on job sites and office/shop areas.
- Maintain a clean job site that could include sweeping, picking up loose materials, cleaning and organizing the work area, removing shavings from oiler, replacing threading machine cardboard/plywood, wiping down oil spray.
- Following compliance with any stipulations set by the General Contractor enabling onsite installation.
- Follow all safety guidelines and regulations to prevent accidents on the job site, ensuring the safety of oneself and others.
- Must be able to procure required licenses/certifications by required dates
- This position could require overnight travel with the possibility of extended stays out of the local area.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Peripheral Responsibilities:
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education/Qualification:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel and have a flexible work schedule.
- Team-oriented focus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to work at excessive heights.
- Ability to walk and maneuver self around construction job sites and climb ladders.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy pipe daily (10-40 lbs frequently and 50-75 lbs occasionally).
- Bending and squatting frequently and for long periods of time.
- Reaching and performing work above shoulder level frequently and for long periods of time.
- Ability to withstand occasional exposure to hot, cold, and/or inclement weather on job sites.
- Ability to wear PPE such as steel toe shoes, ear plugs, safety glass, safety harnesses, and hard hats occasionally on job sites.
